Moonsighting for Jumada-al-Awwal 1429
“The Astronomical New Moon is on May 5, 2008 (Monday) at 12:18 Universal Time or GMT (i.e., 8:18 am EDT, and 5:18 am PDT). It can only be seen with binoculars/telescope in North America, on May 5. It will be visible all over the world except Australia nad New Zealand on May 6, Insha-Allah. In Australia and New Zealand, it will be visible on May 7.”

“Shaikh Haitham addresses the issue of moon sighting indicating important events such as Ramadan and Eid. There has been much confusion surrounding the issue and he seeks to clarify the problem and offer advice by using Islamic juristic (fiqhi) and logical arguments.”
