Bismillah.
As-salaamu alaikum. Alhamdulillah, I had 2 viewings last week. Third potential viewer cancelled in the weekend. The first one has put in a respectable offer. I’ve fed back to the agent and will wait and see if they are willing to meet me half-way. The second viewer has made an appointment for a second viewing this evening, inshaAllah.
Yesterday (Sunday) I took my wife and baby to Ilford to check out the area. We did some shopping on Ilford Lane, went to Al Madina Masjid (Barking masjid) for Asr and had dinner at Sahara Grill (delicious food – we tried their steaks).
We need to visit again and check out some of the places we missed – next time we intend to check out Valentines Park, Seven Kings catchment area, Al Ansar masjid and Al-Noor School, inshaAllah.

WHY 650 & WHAT’S SO SPECIAL?
Al-noor Muslim Primary is a very successful school on the borders of East London & Essex. For the last two years the School has successfully defended its coveted Islam Channel GPU award as the best Muslim Primary in the South of England.
The present School site is set in Green Lane (Goodmayes), by the will of Allah swt, a pub directly next door to our school has become available at a very reasonable price of £650,000. This is a blessed opportunity from Allah swt as over the years we have made a constant Dua that this substantial plot of land should become available to us, and Allah swt answered that Dua.
In order to now fulfil this Dua Al-Noor needs to raise £650,000 by the end of this September, Insha Allah. This is no mean task, however with your help and Allah swt help we are confident we can get there. This is where you come in.
By now were guessing you have understood why the 650? Right? We thought so!
SO WHAT’S SO SPECIAL?
Well it’s like this, you’re what’s special! That’s right YOU!
Al-Noor is looking for 650 very special Muslims to donate £1000 each and become part of our 650special. Yes, you! got it!
If we the Muslim community the world over can find those 650 special Muslims to spend £1000 in the way of Allah, we are well on the way to converting the Pub in to our dream of Al-Noor Secondary School. Now isn’t that Special? Hence 650special.
But there’s more, read on. At Al-Noor we always try to do things that little bit different, you know something a bit special. We are Insha Allah going to organise a very reputable charity to plant an olive tree in Gaza for every one of you that can donate £1000 and more. So at the very least we will plant 650special olive trees in Gaza. That’s two opportunities for Sadaqah Jariyah for the price of one. special or what?
So you can’t donate £1000? You can only do £10 or £100 or £500 or anything in between? Well don’t worry, you’re still very special and you still get the reward, please donate whatever you can!
So there you go that’s why www.650special.co.uk , now all you have to do is log on, donate and tell everyone how they can become special in the eyes of Allah swt.
Now that’s what I call www.650special.co.uk!!!

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
As-salaamu ‘alaikum. Sometimes we all need reminding as to why we do things they way we do – why Allah azza wa jal has decreed something unlawful and others lawful.
Below are some excellent links to riba according to the Qur’an and Sunnah (with textual evidence):

- http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/21914/mortgage (Islam QA on: “Should he go for an interest-based mortgage if that is cheaper than renting?”) and other riba and mortgage related questions with evidence (daleel) provided here.
If you have read my posts about my own personal hijrah and struggle to get myself out of the conventional riba-based mortgage, the latest update is that my house is up for sale! Here’s a link to the sale ad on RightMove.co.uk.
In terms of locations to move to, I have drawn up a list of personal criteria to help me decide where to rent. The primary goal behind the move is for a healthier life for myself and my family: physical, social and spiritual, bi-idhnillah.
Some of things I have to consider in terms of where I’ll be moving to: (in no particular order)
- Financial: Can I afford the rent?
- Community & Neighbourhood
- Masajid/Madrasa/Islamic school
- Schools catchment
- Trains/public transport
- Distance from family
- Distance from work & how much will a season ticket cost?
- Utilities/local taxes: Council tax, Water, Gas & electricity,Phone, broadband, sky etc
- Medical: GP/clinic, hospitals, dentist etc
- Shopping, halal food (e.g. HMC approved butchers)
- Entertainment/Sports/Leisure facilities
InshaAllah over the next few weeks I’ll be checking out a few places in Redbridge (Ilford/Seven Kings), Barking and Bedfordshire (Luton).
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
As-salaamu ‘alaikum. The new moon of Rajab is almost here which means Ramadan is only two months away. I’m starting to get excited about it and all the warm and wonderful memories of past Ramadans are flooding in.
The Companions (r.a.) would miss Ramadan for 6 months following and prepare for Ramadan 6 months in advance.
This year I have decided to start early in terms of preparing for the Month of Mercy. This is my recommendation for this year, but if you think it’s too early, you should start preparing for Ramadan at least a month early. The reason being that usually what happens is that all the Ramadan articles, satellite programmes etc run during Ramadan – and in the past I’ve found that I’m learning about Ramadan during Ramadan – so instead of spending my time reciting Qur’an, reading tafseer, and in prayer and contemplation, I’m frantically trying to find out Ramadan fiqh issues, du’as (supplications), do’s and don’ts, going about things the wrong way, spending too much time with iftar/food preparation… etc. It’s usually about half-way through Ramadan that in the past I get the hang of it and before you know it, Ramadan is over…
This year, Ramadan will commence around 22nd of August, inshaAllah.
Tips:
- Start revising and brushing up on Ramadan do’s and don’t now – check out the resources below. Most likely you have books/audio/video already in your homes so it’s simply a case of picking it up and making sure there are no gaps in your knowledge of the basics of Ramadan. What I try to do though is try to push myself further each year in terms of trying to get closer to Allah azza wa jal.
- Ramadan is the Month of Qur’an – so if you are not regularly reciting the Qur’an – then start now. Use this time to brush up on your tajweed, and get an early start on reciting the Qur’an – memorising it, reading tafseer (comentary/exegesis).
- If you’re not in the habit of voluntary/nafl fasts, start fasting now – even it’s for a couple of days. Remember the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) used to fast regularly, and outside of Ramadan, he fasted most during the months of Muharram (first month in hijri calendar) and Shaban (month before Ramadan). Therefore we should try to fast half of Shaban. Leaving the last two weeks of Shaban to gain strength. This way we are prepared both physically and spiritually for Ramadan, inshaAllah.
- Book your holidays/annual leave from work now – especially for the last 10 days!

- Dr. Zakir Naik’s Ramadan series – check them out in You Tube. TIP: if you’ve got Sky+ or some other way of recording digital satellite TV, it’s a great way to build up a collection of programmes for watching later. If you then add a DVD HD recorder, you can edit out the ads and burn the recording on DVD.

One of my local estate agents is going to come over this Saturday. If all goes to plan, we should be setting things up for the house to be put up for sale.
On the other hand, if I can borrow at least £40,000 interest-free (i.e. riba-free) then I can pay off the mortgage and no need to sell the house. Instead I would rent it out and still move. Qard hasana is obviously the ideal option, where I would simply pay back the lender the original amount borrowed. They in turn will receive the reward of half of charity inshaAllah. Alternative to Qard hasana would be the diminishing musharaka model where the lender is more like an investor and would receive part of the rent every month, proportionate to their equity stake in the property.
Top of the list for relocation are: Ilford/Seven Kings (Greater London/Essex) and Luton (Bedfordshire).
As-salaamu ‘alaikum

Topic: WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY?
I wanted to share some advice/thoughts after a recent family emergency. I will not be going into any details of what happened, but this is more about what we should do if such an incident happened (may Allah swt protect us). It’s a rough draft – I’ll tidy up later when I get the chance.
- Try your best NOT TO BE AFRAID. Fear only ALLAH and put your trust and hope in Allah to heal and cure.
- Have a list of contact numbers of righteous raqis (spiritual healers) that you can contact in an emergency. Have their phone numbers and email addresses and store them in your mobiles and also write them down (e.g. phone book) and let family members know where to find them.
- Try to find a couple of raqis in your local area. Also raqis that are able to travel to you and if you are able to, raqis that you can take the patient to.
- Be prepared to pay for the raqi’s services. For their time, expenses, travel, accommodation, etc. but watch for any that may charge extortionate amounts.
- Different raqis may use various methods – learned through their teachers, experience and experiments. As longs as their methods do not go against what is permissible, then it should be ok, inshAllah.
- Each raqis effectiveness can vary, from patient to patient – but remember always that it is ALLAH who heals.
- Learn the du’as, verses and surahs – have them ready on hand – whether directly from the mushaf (Qur’an) or compiled in books or in booklet form. Read the Arabic, and look at the translation and try to understand the meaning. Also, have a transliteration version available for those who cannot read the Arabic.
- Have Qur’an (especially surah al-Baqarah) on mp3 available and a mp3 player and/or Qur’an/selected ruqyah verses on CD and CD player. IDCI do really good verse by verse translations of Qur’an on mp3 – very cheap too, only 1 or 2 pounds.
- Recite aloud as well as in your head and listen to Qur’an, du’a, dhikr.
- Sisters in their menses should join in the recitation, if anything increase your dhikr as they’re probably more vulnerable.
- You must have patience and remain steadfast (sabr) – recognise this is a test/punishment from Allah swt and make du’a for purification and raising of status in the aakhira (in jannah).
- Please DO NOT be tempted to visit magicians – (you can tell them apart if they deal with taweez, ask for your mother’s name, ask for piece of clothing etc)
- Avoid amulets, talismans, taweez/tabeez/nails at all costs
- DO NOT give in to the demands of the Jinn if he/she is speaking through the patient (e.g. sacrifice an animal etc)
- DO NOT believe in what jinn may be saying – they mix truth with lies
- Try to avoid giving them much attention – they’re most likely trying to scare, trick, bewitch/confuse you
- Get all members of the household to maintain in a state of wudu, observe fard salaat, encourage them to do as much sunnah and nafl prayers as possible, such as qiyam-ul-layl (night prayer/tahajjud).
- Observe daily adhkar – have a copy (or two) of ‘Fortress of the Muslim’
- I would recommend buying two of Sheikh Baly’s two books on Jinns/Devils/Evil Magicians (I’m referring to the English translations)
- Keep your awra covered / observe hijab
- Remove all photos/pictures of living objects from walls/tabletops – put them away.
- Remove all non-children’s dolls/teddy bears etc
- Remove all talismans/taweez – whether it’s on yourself or on your walls: show them to the raqi or in emergency, pour household kitchen vinegar or recited ruqyah water into a tub/plastic container – read your protective du’as/surahs and then put all taweez in the tub and leave outside the house. After 24-48 hours throw away in drain. Alternatively, burn all the tabeez (don’t forget the du’as).
- Avoid haram/sins/arguments
- Do lots of istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness)
- Give sadaqa (e.g. feed the poor, give to humanitarian crises etc)
- Let other family members know and close/trusted friends – they will be able to help with trying to find raqis, help with household, cooking and looking after children etc.
- Look out for other family members and observe their behaviour – encourage and motivate each other to keep up the recitation.
Basic Du’as:
A-UU-ZUBI KALIMAATIL-LAAHIT-TAAM-MAATI MIN SHARRI MAA KHALAQ
BIS-MIL-LLAHIL-LAZII LAA YADURRU MA-AS-MIHII SHAY-UN-FIL ARDI WALAA FIS-SAMAA-I WA HUWAS-SAMII-UL-ALIIM (3x after fajr and maghrib)
- Surah al-Fatiha (1)
- Whole of surah al-Baqarah (2)
- 10 verses of surah al-Baqarah (1-4, 255-257, last 3 verses)
- Ayat-ul-Kursi (v.255 in surah al-Baqarah)
- Surah al-Ikhlas (112)
- Surah al-Falaq (113)
- Surah -an-Nas (114)
- Durood/salawat (shortest is: Allahuma salli ala Muhammad)
Note: you can search and verify the verses (English and Arabic) online at http://www.allahsquran.com/read/index.php
Refer to my other posts and Sheikh Baly’s books for details. There’s also another excellent book, recommended to me by a brother who is a raqi: Preventative measures against Shaytan and authentic ruqyah according to the Shariah.
Repeat the above continuously and get the patient to recite with you. Check how s/he is pronouncing the words.
You can find a list of raqis published on the internet (see my previous posts or from the QuranicHealing website), but if you want a list of raqis that I have either contacted or been recommended, please email me. I have contacts in London (East London, East Ham), St Albans, Birmingham, Luton, Huddersfield and Leeds.

Bismillah. As-salaamu ‘alaikum. As I mentioned in my previous post on the topic, here’s a chart showing the high-level steps I’m planning on taking to achieve my goals, bi-idhnillah.
I hope it will be useful for others in terms of clarity and how things can be made possible, inshaAllah, once you break them down into smaller tasks.
